Entikong, 10 May 2025 – PKM PIIS, Indonesia-Malaysia Zone, that is the slogan used in Community Service (PKM) activities carried out by lecturers from the Sociology Education Study Program together with representatives from the Social Sciences Education Department, FKIP Tanjungpura University (UNTAN) in the Indonesia-Malaysia border region. The activity which took place at the Entikong National Border Post (PLBN) went well and smoothly and received a positive response from the participants and local stakeholders.

This PKM carries two main themes, namely Training on the Use of Digital Teaching Media Applications to Improve the Professional Competence of Teachers at the Border and Optimizing Understanding of Deep Learning Learning Approaches to Improve the Pedagogical Competence of Indonesia-Malaysia Border Teachers. These two themes were chosen as a form of contribution from universities in supporting improving the quality of education in border areas which have their own challenges in the learning process.

This activity aims to provide direct training to teachers in border areas to be able to develop learning strategies that are more modern, technology-based and oriented to the needs of the times. In its implementation, participants received material as well as practice regarding the use of digital teaching media which can be used to support a more interactive and effective learning process. Apart from that, participants were also given an understanding of the deep learning approach as a deep, meaningful and learner-centered learning method.

This event was attended by various important figures, including the Head of Entikong Subdistrict, Chair of PGRI Entikong, teacher representatives from the PGRI Entikong Management, as well as School Supervisors. The presence of these stakeholders shows strong support for efforts to improve the quality of education in the Indonesia-Malaysia border area.

The head of the PKM implementation team said that this activity is part of academics' responsibility to support educational equality throughout Indonesia, including in the 3T (frontier, outermost and underdeveloped) regions. According to him, increasing teacher capacity is one of the strategic steps to create quality education and be able to answer the challenges of increasingly dynamic technological developments and social changes.

"We hope that this training can be the first step for teachers in border areas to continue to develop, be creative and adapt to changing times. Teachers have a very important role in producing future generations, so increasing their competency needs to continue to be supported through various professional development programs," he said.

The participants expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the implementation of this activity. Apart from gaining new insights and skills that can be applied in the learning process at school, this activity is also a space to share experiences and strengthen collaborative networks between teachers, universities and various education stakeholders in border areas.

By holding this activity, FKIP Tanjungpura University has once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing education through synergy between academics and practitioners in the field. Through various sustainable community service programs, FKIP UNTAN continues to strive to make a real contribution in realizing quality, inclusive and equitable education to all corners of the country.
